Twelve dead , 2,000 homes destroyed and 8,000 victims caused the huge fire in the Chilean city of Valparaiso, 120 kilometers from Santiago , according to the latest report released by the Interior Minister Rodrigo Peñailillo . "Hopefully in the next 48 to 72 hours effective to control the flames ," stated Secretary of State , after attending a meeting of the emergency committee .
Peñailillo reported that there are four active outbreaks of fire, caused mainly by the effect of wind , forcing the evacuation of new areas. The flames are concentrated in the population and in the Las Torres Rocuant , Mariposa, Yungay and Jimenez hills. So far, 1,200 people are housed in one of the 28 centers set , said the chief of staff, but the number of victims is not yet final . Nor of those killed : the minister has stated that the amount be increased with the passing hours .
The city is in a state of emergency: about 850 acres have been burned . Hundreds of people have begun to return to their homes to retrieve their belongings , as the flames were tamed. The mayor of Valparaiso, Jorge Castro, has called : "People should not go off hills ."
Although the fire has not been extinguished, the interior minister said that " we have a less complicated than the situation last night ."
