The number of mortgages on homes registered in the records of the property stood at 16,420 last February , down 33 % from the same month in 2013 , according to data released Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE ) . This year decline chains 46 months of consecutive falls and six tenths zoom year decline in January, when the mortgaged homes were down 32.4%.
The average value of the contracts reached 102,443 euros , 1.1% less than in the same period of 2013 . Borrowed capital was reduced by 33.7 % year on year , to 1682.1 million. 93.3% of contracts signed in February used a variable rate , compared to 6.7 % fixed rate. Euribor accounted for the highest percentage of variable rate mortgages , both before the change ( 76.7 % ) and after ( 86%).
In housing, the number of mortgages modified conditions fell 28.5% . Of the 18,473 mortgages modified conditions , 34% were due to changes in interest rates . After modification , the percentage of fixed-rate mortgages fell from 7.3% to 4.7 % and the variable rate mortgage increased from 92.3 % to 94.2 %.
