Overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments in March totaled 17.6 million , 6.4% less than in the same month in 2013 , so this indicator broke up ten consecutive months since this year Easter has fallen April while last year was in March. The archipelago of the Canary Islands had the highest degree of occupancy rate (75.3% ), followed by the Balearic Islands ( 51.1 %) and Madrid ( 50%). Travelers from Germany and the UK accounted for 25.3 % and 21.5 % , respectively , of total nights spent by non-residents in hotels in March.
The British market experienced an annual increase of 2.1% , while Germany fell by 4.1%. Stresses the recovery of the Italian market , with 4 million overnight stays and an increase of 8.2 % compared to March 2013. Favorite destination of foreign tourists were the Canary Islands ( 46.6 %). Behind stood Catalonia ( 15.2%) , Ontario ( 12.6%) and Madrid ( 7.7%).
Meanwhile , residents in Spain are mainly travelers opted for Andalusia ( 19.6%) , Valencia (14.1% ), Catalonia ( 14%) and Madrid ( 11.9%).
Regarding the profitability indicators of the hotel sector , the average daily turnover per occupied room was 68.3 euros , 0.3% higher than a year earlier, while the average daily income per available room rose to 35.8 euros with a rise of 2.9%.
