A total of 495 Catalan companies filed for bankruptcy during the first quarter, according to data published Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The figure represents a notable increase over the same period of 2011, 20.4%, and accounts for 22.2% of all Spanish companies have become insolvent: 2,224. The vast majority of the contests have been declared in Catalonia volunteers, 477. And stands another figure, that 71 of insolvencies are not businesses, but "individuals without business". That is, families unable to afford their payments.
Data published by the INE indicate that most companies can not afford the payments are small. Specifically, 359 of the nearly 500 companies with fewer than 50 employees and 290 billed less than two million. PIMEC president, Josep Gonzalez, is alarmed "a situation that is not moderation" and he attributes, without hesitation, "the lack of credit." "The consequences of the lack of credit are of incalculable magnitude, affecting especially small and medium enterprises, which this year have seen them close the tap even more, up 4%, while at large have a 6% more credit. "
Gonzalez recalls that between 80% and 85% of companies who will contest "and do not recover and die" with the loss of jobs added each quiebra.En this point coincides with the Director of Economics Foment the Treball, Mercè Pizarro. "The problem is not just the number, there are many contests, but that much just shut down," he says, and recalls that in the previous crisis in the 90, at the end of the process "had companies who bought at auction, but now there is no funding. " Pizarro also notes the lack of credit as the main cause of the difficulties faced by Catalan companies: "There are entrepreneurs with strong future projects ... but no credit are not viable," he laments.
PIMEC President also warns that insolvencies are extended to all sectors. The figures confirm it: radiographed an economy that is still played the most companies involved in the real estate and construction (131). But the crisis has reached fully to the industry (83 industries concerned, including intermediate goods, capital and consumption), and no sector can escape the current situation, except agriculture and fishing and energy. 66 companies have submitted tender involved in wholesale trade, 10 small shops and dealers, 27 dedicated to transportation, hospitality 6 to 9 to 20 to telecommunications or professional activities.
According to Gonzalez, "the situation will not improve until the credit flowing again." That is, the Government "stabilize the financial system." On the case of Bankia and eventual public bailout, supports it provided that "institutions are obliged to return these funds with interest, but not if it ends up affecting public lending on citizens or businesses."
From the Catalan government, his spokesman, Francesc Homs, has warned that the fact that Catalonia lead insolvencies in number, "is the result of having more registered companies." By the Enterprise and Employment counseling, a spokesman considered that the numbers "are the result of economic conditions" and that most insolvency cases have originated in the credit crunch. The spokesman recalled that since the general direction of industry is doing everything possible to "helping companies that are in competition but are feasible to prevent their failure" and has examples of companies or Manaut reflotadas to Cacacolat. Among the projects that the Government is currently working Cubigel. "These are cases that prove to be in competition is not synonymous with the company is in its final leg," he added.
