The rectors of Spanish universities unanimously decided not to attend the meeting which was convened at four this afternoon at the University Council, chaired by Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, José Ignacio Wert. According advanced this morning, were not present study because the meeting's agenda did not include discussion of the royal decree on urgent measures to streamline the education spending, which includes increased university fees, regulates the dedication of teachers or financial management of universities, and was approved by the Government on 20 April.

The rector of the University of Cordoba, Jose Manuel Roldan, after attending the Standing Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). warned that the decision would be taken at the end of the morning following the conclusion of the Assembly of this organization, which consists of 75 bodies. "We had asked the minister extraordinary call a council of universities to discuss and debate the royal decree. So far we have an ordinary call which has no analysis or discussion of the text," Roldan said this morning. On the contents of the meeting with the minister, Roland said that, but one related to the new scholarship policy, the rest "are matters of procedure which does not respond to the request of the directors."
