The rector of the University of Cordoba, Jose Manuel Roldan, after attending the Standing Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). warned that the decision would be taken at the end of the morning following the conclusion of the Assembly of this organization, which consists of 75 bodies. Apparently, they have not reached a conclusion.
"We had asked the minister extraordinary call a council of universities to discuss and debate the royal decree. So far we have an ordinary call which has no analysis or discussion of the text," Roldan said this morning. The Assembly of the CRUE "decide what position to take, it is possible that the decision to attend [the meeting with Wert], not to attend or make a statement."
On the contents of the meeting with the minister, Roland said that, but one related to the new scholarship policy, the rest "are matters of procedure which does not respond to the request of the directors."
This was the first meeting of the Minister of Education with the University Council after the government approved the adjustment measures in the education system which aims to save EUR 3,000 million and over which the CRUE and showed in his day their discomfort by knowing the content once authorized by the Council of Ministers.
The president of the CRUE, Adelaide Street, said at the time that they do not "improve" the Spanish university system and criticized the arguments defended by the minister to warn of "insufficient work of teachers and students to justify the decree law" . The text provides for the restructuring of university degrees and eliminating those with low demand, allows communities to raise the cost of the first plate up to 66%, includes a punitive system for those universities that fail to meet their budgets and adjusting the system of dedication of faculty, depending on whether they meet only with the teaching or research, or both.
