AMANDA MARS (SPECIAL SENT) Washington 8 APR 2014 - 15:07 CET
The International Monetary Fund ( IMF) has raised the growth forecast for Spain this year from 0.6% to 0.9 %. Three tenths of a difference from what was estimated in January that body close to the forecast made recently to the European Commission and the Spanish Government ( 1%). This is the third consecutive improvement in the estimates that the institution based in Washington takes on the country, however, does not allow celebration in employment: the unemployment rate will continue at 25% even in 2015.
The numbers make me wonder if the output of a crisis necessarily imply the beginning of recovery or is there an intermediate rough gray episode, a sort of limbo in which the Spanish economy has been installed. The global outlook report that the IMF has presented Tuesday plasma again , as happened six months ago, a year ago, as sensed from the second recession of 2011 - that the process back to a certain economic normalcy can expand many years stay in the crisis.

Expectations for next year have also scratched a couple of tenths more about what was estimated in January , rising from 0.8 % to 1 % , but is a much more pessimistic rate than Brussels or the Bank Spain ( 1.7%) and does not allow a turnaround in the labor market , the main thermometer that economy called , significantly , real economy : the unemployed will account for 25.5 % of the working population this year ( in October last forecast employment Fund , calculated 26.7% ) and 24.9 % in 2015 ( compared to 26.5 % previously ) .
However, the projection of GDP in 2014 has moved ahead of Italy and Greece , both with a forecast of 0.6 % and Netherlands with 0.8% , albeit at the lower part of the table .
" Out of Spain , you know better than me, you look at our country as an example of how you can overcome the crisis ," boasted on Monday the Prime Minister , Mariano Rajoy , during a meeting with businessmen in Madrid. But the feeling - or desire -de Rajoy is far from what we breathe in Washington, where an alleged out of the crisis with an unemployment rate of 25% is not presented as a model to emulate in any way.
Duties to Government
The IMF managing director , Christine Lagarde , used precisely its participation in the Global Forum in Bilbao Spain last month, a kind of Davos day that the Government organized in style to claim the executive Mariano Rajoy more measures : tax cuts to encourage hiring and a deepening of the labor reform was careful to specify, in addition to the much-promised reduction of bureaucratic burdens of starting a business in Spain .
Another concern of the Fund and Brussels, to promote the restructuring of the debts of the companies to reduce the number of insolvencies has had positive response from the government, which has adopted a comprehensive reform in this regard, but the government itself will give battle of VAT , as the Finance Minister Cristobal Montoro, has ignored warnings from Europe, the IMF and even the own group of experts he convened to prepare his tax reform and assured that no longer go taxation items of low to average rates .
"These numbers reflect a slower pace of fiscal adjustment , expectations of improvement in credit conditions and a stronger external demand," summarized Olivier Blanchard , chief economist of the institution in the press conference in which he presented the report.
The Fund combines with apparent ease for months praises reformist government advances, the adjustment of public accounts and the major macroeconomic indicators improved with a purely discouraging employment and household income figures . " The scars of the crisis are deep and will take years to heal ," Lagarde also admitted in his last visit to Spain .
