The Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Cristobal Montoro, recalled Wednesday that "there are other possibilities" beyond raising the VAT, as recommended by the European Commission in a report released today. The Executive, however, the possibilities of increasing revenue through indirect taxation, which includes VAT and environmental taxes, thus reducing employment rates levied.
"What we do as a government will rely more on indirect taxation, environmental, and rest less income from taxation, public sector employment, which is what the Commission reiterates its recommendation," said the minister.
