The Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Cristobal Montoro, recalled Wednesday that "there are other possibilities" beyond raising the VAT, as recommended by the European Commission in a report released today. The Executive, however, the possibilities of increasing revenue through indirect taxation, which includes VAT and environmental taxes, thus reducing employment rates levied.
"What we do as a government will rely more on indirect taxation, environmental, and rest less income from taxation, public sector employment, which is what the Commission reiterates its recommendation," said the minister. "Do not look only to the VAT tax figure, albeit the best known. The aim of these measures, as Montoro, is "tailored to the potential for increased revenue, as advised Brussels, since the level of revenue on gross domestic product (GDP) is the lowest in the European Union".
