PSOE leader, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has agreed on Friday with the European Central Bank president, Mario Draghi, to criticize the management of Spanish banking crisis has made the central government. "With Bankia could not have done worse," said Rubalcaba economic conference in the Circle of Economy held in Sitges (Barcelona).
Rubalcaba considers to be amended the whole process of nationalization of Bankia because "no one thinks of opening a banking crisis and keep open three weeks." Leaving aside the criticism of the president of Bankia, Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarri, who has said he has "an excellent view," Rubalcaba has called for "review" the accounts so far. "It would review why [we must inject] 23,000 million, mainly because a few days ago we were told were 10,000 or 7,000". According to Rubalcaba this fix should be made by the Bank of Spain and external auditors, as in their view there is a risk that they overestimate the risk assets of banks. "I hope this is done sensibly to avoid contaminating the entire banking reform," he said.
To overestimate the toxic assets and extended this procedure to all Spanish banks, which would have is, according to Rubalcaba is "a big problem there now." "A supervisor must say if the criteria are criteria Bankia appropriate."
After the PSOE abstained in the vote on Thursday on banking reform of the PP government, Rubalcaba has admitted he must seek the unity of the major parties on key issues. "Unfortunately we have severely devalued the Spain brand, we must show unity on the major issues, as this is invaluable to gain confidence before Europe," he assured.
Indeed, during the presentation of the PSOE leader, President of the Circulo de Economia, Josep Pique, has called "covenants and agreements" to "recover the prestige of many institutions." Piqué has said that this same Saturday asked the prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, who also plans to attend the business forum.
Before an audience composed mostly of businessmen, Rubalcaba has defended the introduction of a tax on large fortunes in line with that drove the French president Nicolas Sarkozy. An attendee at the conference asked him if it seemed wise to this tax in a scenario of capital outflows, Rubalcaba has said so. "The money that will do it for reasons other than a tax if there is more or less," he assured. "France has this tax and the great fortunes were not, the French castles did not move," he riveted.
Leveraging its intervention in Catalonia, and the Minister of Economy Andreu Mas-Colell in the auditorium, Rubalcaba has referred to the fiscal pact as demanded by the Government of Artur Mas. It has not gone into details, but has boasted of being involved and "in a fiscal covenant", referring to the negotiation of regional financing which closed in 2009. Rubalcaba has been shown to reviewing this system "normally", but has made clear that the reform "must be agreed" between the regions and the state.
