Barcelona. (EFE). - A group of ten survivors of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 have come today to Barcelona aboard the Peace Boat to disclose their testimony with a message of peace and against nuclear weapons.
The Peace Boat left Japan in January with 900 activists from the NGO that receives the same name and ten "Hibakushas" survivors of the bombing, to visit various cities and ports in the world, share your testimony and "promote peace and cultural exchange "have claimed in a statement.
This afternoon met in audience with the president of the Catalan Parliament, Núria de Gispert, who thanked them work "in favor of peace and memory" so that "young people aware of the importance of peace" and these events "never occur again."
The Hibakushas have explained that "the worst are the after-effects of radiation" and have pointed out that since the accident at the nuclear plant in Fukushima, the Japanese "have a need to reflect on these facts." Before the hearing with the president of Parliament, the delegation also met with parliamentarians from ICV-EUiA, PSC and CiU, members of the commission of cooperation and solidarity.
In the afternoon, have been directed at PIA School Balmes in Barcelona where they have lectured to students and teachers, accompanied by the president and director of the Foundation for Peace, and Jordi Xavier Masllorens Armadans, respectively. Masllorens explained the importance of initiatives like this that make "a firm commitment to denuclearization."
All survivors have over seventy-six years and since 2008 touring the world on board the Peace Boat in a "global journey across a world free of nuclear weapons" will return to Japan in May.
