The Spanish courts last year processed 58,241 cases of eviction, which is a record figure since records began and that also meant a 22% increase compared to 2010. The continued rise in unemployment and the problems facing families to make ends meet have led many tenants to stop paying their mortgage or rent, as highlight data published today by the Supreme Judicial Council ( CGPJ).
To avoid the drama involving the eviction of families from their homes, the Government has decided to create a code of good practice for banks in order to ease and facilitate evictions in lieu of payment of mortgages for people at risk of exclusion . In fact, during the last four years, judicial foreclosures have soared, reaching 166,700 records.
The most affected region by far was the Valencia region, with 13,711 foreclosures, followed by Andalusia and Madrid 9,864 9,460 records. The least affected was La Rioja, 244. Only in the fourth quarter, housing evictions started in Spain amounted to 15,347, a figure that is in line with previous quarters, except in the third quarter, which was about 10,800.
The General Council of Judicial Power also announced today the execution, ie, the proceedings initiated by mortgage lenders to stay home with unpaid, and in 2011 recorded a decrease of 17% to 77,854, far from the record reached in 2010 with 93,636 procedures.

The community was the most affected with 1,564 Catalan contests, followed by Valencia and Madrid in 1241 1,141.
