The Jewish community of France, which has suffered a tragedy on Monday after a school shooting at Toulouse confessional that has caused four deaths, has between 500,000 and 700,000 according to different estimates, I do agree that is the main Western Europe. Judaism is the fourth largest religion in France after Catholicism, Islam and Protestantism. In total there are 300 synagogues operating in the country.

Before World War II, 300,000 Jews lived in France, of which about 76,000 were deported during the Holocaust by the Nazis, with the support of the French collaborationist Vichy. On July 16, 1995, Jacques Chirac was the first French president who apologized for his country's role in the deportation and murder of Jews during the Shoah. "The criminal folly of the occupier was seconded by the French and the French state," he said.

Since 1945 and especially after decolonization in North Africa between 1955 and 1965, tens of thousands of Jews arrived in France.

Although not yet established the motive for the shooting today and may be related to the death of three soldiers last week also in Toulouse, different French authorities have stated that it is anti-Semitic attack. The attacks against the community have not been infrequent in recent years in France. The most serious attack against the Jewish community since the release took place on Oct. 9 against Jo Goldenberg restaurant, located in the Jewish heart of Paris, the rue des Rossiers, in which five people were killed and 22 wounded. The last took place in 2009 with the burning of two synagogues.
