Madrid (AP). - The accumulated debt of the Government at year end of 2011 totaled 41.778 million, which represented an increase of 22% compared to 2010 and thus set a new record in the series, according to the Bank of Spain. Borrowing of Catalonia is the highest of all the regions and also weighs more than proportionally in relation to GDP to 20.7%, followed by Valencia with 19.9% and Castilla-La Mancha, with 18 %.
The indebtedness of all the autonomous added 140.083 million, up 17.3% over the previous year. In relation to GDP, borrowing autonomy weighs 13.1%. At the beginning of the crisis, in 2008, the indebtedness of the Government was 20.825 million, barely half in 2011.
Although Catalonia is the most debt accumulated, Navarre was the most increased its debt in 2011, a 44.56%. Below are Andalusia (14,314,000 euros), Galicia (7009000), Castilla-La Mancha (6587000), Basque Country (5.536 million), Castilla y Leon (5,476,000 euros), Balearic Islands (4,432 million), Canary Islands (3,718 million), Aragon (3,403,000) and Murcia (2806000). Completing the list Navarra (2,446 million), Asturias (2,155 million), Extremadura (2,021 million), Cantabria (1,293 million) and La Rioja (900 million).
Regarding the evolution of the debt, no community has reduced its debt from last year. The most notable increases were located in Navarra (+44.5%), Murcia (33.1%) and Cantabria (30.4%).
The debt of municipalities, stable
Meanwhile, local government threw a debt of 35,420 million euros in 2011, equivalent to 3.3% of GDP, representing a decrease of 0.03%. Of the total debt of local government, the majority (28,368,000) corresponds to the municipalities, a decrease of 1.3% and this figure 14.123 million belong to provincial capitals.
The debt of municipalities over 500,000 inhabitants (Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Sevilla, Valencia and Zaragoza) amounted to 10.288 million euros, representing a decrease of 1.9%.
Stresses, declining debt Consistory of Barcelona, which totaled 1,090 million euros, down 9.3% compared to 2010, after having recorded the largest increases in 2010. The Madrid City Council's debt fell 1.6%, but added 6.348 million and amounts to nearly six times that of Barcelona.
