The governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Panics Dimitriades, has recognized that the adoption of the law that imposes a partial corralito deposits in the Mediterranean country, under discussion in Parliament, will cause a leak of at least 10% of the money deposited in Cypriot banks "in the early days." This is equivalent to 6,840 million euros, 38% of the GDP of Cyprus and a major rescue snack around 15,800 million euros (10,000 million by the troika of the IMF, the European Commission and the ECB and the rest on account of the confiscation of a percentage of deposits, to be determined).
In an appearance before the Finance Committee of Parliament, Dimitriades also said that the review of the proposed confiscation of deposits filed Tuesday will not be enough to raise the 5,800 million euros required Brussels. The revised draft eliminates the confiscation for deposits of less than 20,000 euros, but maintains the retention of 6.75% on deposits between 20,000 and 100,000 euros and 9.9% for exceeding that figure.
