The net profit of Spanish non-financial companies fell by 62.3% in 2012, intensifying the decline recorded in 2011, when it fell by 34.7%, according to data from the Central Balance Sheet Quarterly (CBT) Bank of Spain .
This was due mainly to the existence of "substantial" losses generated in operations sale of shares, as well as "strong" impairment loss on financial assets value. A negative effect was offset "partially" by lower severance costs.
The "remarkable" decline noted by nonfinancial firms affected nearly all branches of production, in a context of weak domestic demand and lower export growth, says the regulator.
