Annual inflation fell four tenths in March stood at 2.4%, due to lower prices of fuels and lubricants, as the leading indicator of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released today by the National Institute Statistics (INE).
The final figure will be announced on April 12 and, if confirmed, marks the return of inflation to lower rates, close to July 2012, when it had not yet entered into force on VAT hike.
The INE also released today the leading indicator of CPI (HICP), which measures changes in prices in the same method in all countries of the euro area, according to which, the inflation would also dropped about three tenths previous month to stand at 2.6% in March.
Although fuels have evolved over March better than the same month of 2012, which explains the downward impact on inflation, this will not be a relief for all drivers who will fill your tank with a view week.
According to the EU Oil Bulletin, the price of gasoline has broken in the last week the downward trend that had accumulated since the end of February and prices increased 0.62% to 1.452 euros on average. The diesel, meanwhile, has maintained itself downward trend throughout the month of March and has fallen nearly 0.6% to 1.362 euros. This price is the lowest since the first week of January.
In the present scenario, half fill a tank of 55 liters of petrol now costs 79.86 euros, almost 50 cents more than a week ago. In the case of diesel, is a pay 74.91 euros, more than 40 cents less than the week before.
The government has adopted several measures to promote competition in the fuel sector and lower prices, including a cut in the required percentages of biofuel blending and encouraging the participation of new companies in the business of filling stations .
