The European Commission said Friday that it is examining whether the distribution agreements of U.S. computer giant Apple with telecom operators for iPhone and iPad infringe the competition rules of the EU. As explained Competition spokesman, Antoine Colombani, Brussels has been informed by other "market players" of these "distribution practices" controversial, although "there have been no formal complaints."
"The Commission is examining the situation and the information submitted by industry players," said Colombani. "Overall, we are actively monitoring developments in these markets and intervene if there are indications of anti-competitive behavior to the detriment of consumers," he added.
However, when Brussels considers that "the markets for smartphones and tablets are very dynamic, innovative and fast growing." "The growing market share of Samsung and the success of Google's Android platform are good reasons to believe that competition is strong in these markets," he noted the EU executive.
