Seven young Spanish universities among the top 100 in the world according to the ranking drawn up annually by the British publication Times Higher Education (THE) to classify the most prominent educational institutions of higher level of less than 50 years. Spain is also the fourth largest , behind the United Kingdom, Australia and the U.S. , with more campuses in the top 100. Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, ranked 13th .
The British magazine Times Higher Education produces the International Classification of major universities, with the University making Shanghai. Since 2012 , also publishes the ranking of campus less than 50 years: in the traditional classification the average age of the institutions is 200 years. No school Spanish university among the top 100 in the traditional ranking ( Pompeu Fabra , the best position is in the 164th ) , but in the top 100 youth centers Spain greatly improved its position : the seven campus standing among the best, beats France ( 6) Germany (6 ), Canada (5) Taiwan ( 4) or Hong Kong ( 3).
Apart from the Pompeu Fabra , appear in the top 100 the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ranked 23) , the Autonomous University of Madrid ( 58 ) , Rovira i Virgili University ( 66 ) University of Vigo ( 76), the Polytechnic University of Valencia ( 77) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (95). The best university in the world is under 50 , according to the ranking, the Pohang University of Science and Technology of South Korea.

The publication analyzes encompassed 13 indicators in five categories : research, the impact of the scientific production of each university ( number of citations ) , teaching , internationalization and innovation. They are the same indicators used in the traditional classification , but the weight of academic prestige is reduced because the old institutions enjoy more prestige " based on its long heritage of excellence ," says the publication. In the case of young campus , he adds, the analysis should be based more on "hard" and "objective" indicators.
The Spanish universities tend to be far behind in international rankings .
