The number of people who chose to switch mobile phone company set a new record in January. A total of 633,616 numbers were ported from one to another operator, with an annual increase of 17.4%, according to data from Market Commission (CMT), thanks in part to aggressive offers launched by companies during Christmas last season. However, the commercial strategy did nothing to increase the total number of mobile subscribers and the business lost 246,973 lines in the first month of the year, linking six consecutive months of decline.
The overall loss of lines leads companies to improve their offerings to attract new customers. The call portability-the process that allows to switch companies and the number-conserving continues to benefit MVNOs, have no network, but rent it to an operator who does as Movistar, with a positive net balance numbers of 170,414. At number two on the list is Telstra (30,970 won numbers) and Orange (16,769). Losers: Movistar, which saw 106,486 disappeared from their list numbers, and Vodafone, with 111,667 fewer numbers in January.
The business is still growing broadband
They are also MVNOs getting the win more new lines (179,370) in a market as a whole for not losing customers: 246,973 fewer lines in January, especially by the great fall of the prepayment (253,000 less), especially between Movistar and Vodafone. Taken together, closed in January with 52.7 million mobile lines, a ratio of 114 lines per 100 inhabitants (and datacards mobile lines).
No one falls the number of mobile lines. Fixed telephony also suffered in January, with 40,169 lines, up to 18.97 million lines.
The business is still growing broadband, adding 60,393 lines to the market in January and continued the positive trend recorded this segment in recent months. Specifically, the uptake of broadband lines was led by alternative operators, with 30,090 lines, followed by Telefónica won 27,920 lines. Meanwhile, cable operators won 2390 lines during the month.
Of all the new lines contracted by 36.2%, or 21,918 lines corresponded to fiber connections to the home (FTTH) connections that exceeded 354,000, of which 97% (345,164 lines) belong to Telefónica.
The total number of broadband lines in Spain reached 11.62 million. By market share, Telefónica held in January a 48.32% market share, followed by alternative operators, with 33.05%, and the cable, with a 18.63%.
