September turned out to be disastrous for the unemployed in Catalonia: every day 319 people signed up to the offices of the Service Occupation Catalan. In total, the number of unemployed in Catalonia rose in 9575 people in September (1.54% more than the previous month), bringing the total of 632,457 unemployed, according to the Ministry of Employment and Social Security. Of the newly unemployed, 3895 are young. This is the second consecutive month of recovery after accumulating five months of declines for the summer season, which usually occurs on the strike truce. But when compared with September 2011, Catalonia has added 31,527 unemployed, an increase of 5.25%. In Spain as a whole, the number of registered unemployed persons has risen by 79,645 in September, 1.72% from August, which put the total number of unemployed again above 4.7 million after three months below this barrier.
In Catalonia, the drama affects all territories: all Catalan provinces have seen an increase in unemployment in September. The head of Girona, with an increase of 5.23% compared to August, with 2,776 more unemployed. In Tarragona, the number of unemployed has increased by 2,793 people, 4.14% more, in Lleida in 1009 (3.53% more), and in Barcelona in 2997 (0.63% more).
Indicators, all negative, and worse if you consider that 30% of the unemployed have exhausted the supply. Are 191,774 people. By sector, virtually all of the unemployed have been registered in the service sector, where unemployment has risen to 9122 people in September, while in the construction industry and has declined in 696 and 789 people, respectively. In agriculture has increased by 1,025 people and the unemployed grow without previous employment at 913 people.
The paradoxical fact is that in September there have been more than 27,104 contracts in the previous month, an increase of 18.6%. Of these new contracts, 9135 are permanent and 17,969 temporary. Some of this can be explained by temporary hiring practice of some companies to hire employees for days, so that a single employee can add a score of contracts, but in any case, unions are not explained how in the current circumstances can reach to 27,000 contracts.
Unions have gone to cry today against labor reform that, in his view is emerging useless to fight unemployment and create jobs. UGT has called economic recovery policies and public resources to focus on the victims of the crisis. Meanwhile, CC OO has warned that the general state budget "will cause more recession" and a rise in unemployment.
