Production and distribution companies have absorbed in a 60% increase in VAT which came into force last September, according to analysts at the University Carlos III released by the National Association of Large Distribution Companies Commercial (Anged) in Catalonia . In a statement, Anged highlighted the efforts of the companies they represent, El Corte Ingles, Carrefour, Eroski, Ikea, Leroy Merlin Cortefiel and, among others, to help lessen the effects of the crisis on Spanish households, by stability of employment, price suppression, the financing of consumer purchases and investment in facilities.
Specifically, he noted that large areas have been earmarked for investment 13,000 million euros in the 2007-2011 period, "despite the restrictions and barriers that weigh on large farms in terms of timetables, opening licenses and taxes." Anged stressed that these "limitations" that currently exist motivate sector paralyzed investment projects amounting to 2,500 million euros.
In terms of prices, has highlighted the "great effort" made in lowering the basket, "without reducing the quality and innovation by highlighting the shelves." It has pointed out that, during the crisis, trade prices have risen three points less than the CPI.
Moreover, in a context of difficult access to credit, companies within granted Anged consumer credit in 2011 for about 9.175 million euros in Spain, about 40% of the total granted in the country. At year end, associated companies amounted Anged 230,000 workers, 91% with permanent contracts and more than 88% full time.
