The net financial wealth of Spanish households-difference between savings and loans granted by them-was reduced to 58.112 million euros in the second quarter of 2012 compared to the previous quarter, 7.6% to 702.549 million of euros, mainly due to the stock market crash, according to data published today by the Bank of Spain.
These assets were reduced by 138,237,000 in annual terms, compared to total 840 786 000 June 2011.
Financial assets of Spanish households-cash, shares, deposits and rent-numbered values 1.632 billion euros at the end of the second quarter, well below the 1.685 billion recorded in June last year.
Financial liabilities of households borrowing short-and long-term and other accounts payable, and trade credits and advances, rose slightly to 930.214 million between April and June compared to 924 839 000 that was in March.
The short term loans had grown by 18.2% quarter, reaching 35.488 million, reflecting higher consumption with deferred payment, as these loans are often used to purchase goods such as televisions or cars.
The long-term loans, however, continued to fall this quarter, 2%, reflecting the economic crisis in Spain, which retracts to customers asking when funding and makes conditions harden entities. At the end of June, the families living in Spain accumulated 858,819,000 in long-term loans, 2,969 million less than a year ago.
