The average monthly salary in Spain in 2012, 1,639 euros a month, was 15.34% lower than the average of the European Union (EU), 1,936 euros. Moreover, since 2008, the average salary in Spain suffers a fall in purchasing power of 2.3%. These are the main conclusions of the Monitor Opportunity Adecco Employment Satisfaction developed with researchers at Barceló and Associates.
The average wage of the Spanish economy as a whole in 2012 was 1,639 euros per month. This level was an improvement of 0.5% over the same data, 2011. However, the increase in consumer prices exceeded the average wage advance. In 2012 the loss was 1.9%. Since 2008, the average salary in Spain suffers a fall in purchasing power of 2.3%.
By sector, the only industry where the average wage has improved its purchasing power compared with the beginning of the crisis (+0.6%).
By region, only four have a higher than the national average wage (1,639 Euros / month). These are the Basque Country (1,957 euros), Madrid (1,890 euros), Catalonia (1,755 euros) and Navarra (1736). At the other end, Canarias and Extremadura are the only autonomous earning less than 1,400 euros.
A full-day average worker last year claimed 1,882 euros a month while one received 704 part-time. On both days the compensation was highest in the industrial sector: EUR 1,933 fulltime and 770 partial. In the construction, the full-time salary was 1,684 euros per month, the lowest of the three sectors. In the Services found the lower paid part-time, with 698 euros per month.
