French President François Hollande, met today in Paris to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in the midst of a deep crisis in the eurozone and intended to support initiatives to stimulate growth and create jobs. The two leaders announced that they will file a joint text to the European Council in June, the first time this has happened since the election last year of François Hollande, who opted for a thawing of relations between Paris and Berlin, which are not at their best. The text that the two leaders will lead to Brussels will emphasize the need to accelerate the implementation of the European fund 6,000 million to boost youth employment.
Merkel stressed that shared the common goal is to create sustainable employment and announced that the two countries intend to propose to the other 25 partners a plan to accelerate the reforms leading to the creation of jobs. In a press conference in the Elysee Palace, Hollande also has placed as a pillar of that common position to be presented to the European Council on release of funds for SMEs to have access to credit.
"Fiscal consolidation is not enough," said Merkel. "Major structural reforms are needed to raise competitiveness." The two leaders agreed on the need for progress in economic coordination, fiscal harmonization and banking union.
The French president also highlighted the agreement with Berlin to advance tax harmonization and also create a competitive contract that sets minimum wage standard productive sectors. The acceding countries will have access to relief funds.
For better coordination of European economic governance, the two leaders have chosen a president of the Eurogroup "full time" and more frequent pace meetings of ministers of the euro zone.
"France and Germany are not in contradiction," Hollande has argued in his speech.
