Spanish emigration to Germany grew by 45% in 2012 over the previous year, according to official statistics made with census data. It involves the arrival of 29,910 new immigrants from Spain during the past year. It is the heaviest figure since 1973. Not included German citizens returning to their country after residing in Spain, but migrants from third nationalities that changed Spain by Germany. In total, emigration to Germany grew 13% in 2012. Up to 1.08 million people with 966,000 of them foreign nationals, the country moved from other locations, while 712,000 left. The positive balance of 369,000 people is the highest since 1995.
The increase of Spanish immigration to the problems in finding a job in this country is striking, although the total number does not reach the years of mass emigration of the dictatorship. In 1960, 31,145 Spanish arrived in Germany. Was nearly 54,000 in 1961. With the exception of 1967 (17.000 new Spanish enumerations in Germany), the figure dropped from the 38000-1974 (13,760). The peak was reached in the years before the developmentalism under the Franco regime: in 1964, 65 were counted, respectively, 81,818 and 82,324 new Spanish records in the standards of Germany. In 1973, the energy crisis led the German government to cancel the recruitment programs foreign labor. With one big difference, Poland tops the list of countries with high emigration to Germany in 2011 reached a whopping 176,000 Poles living in Germany, 8% more than in the previous year. Romania came 116,000, 21,000 more than in 2011. Bulgaria is third on the list with 59,000 emigrants.
The unemployment rate in Germany does not reach 7%, while more than a quarter of workers in Spain and Greece are seeking employment. Youth unemployment in these countries is close to 60%. Germany is why the most attractive destination for young Europeans in search of opportunities.
