Bankia's shares suffered a decline of 30.79% just over half an hour after the start of the session that placed their titles to 0.96 euros, below the par value of one euro established after the reverse split.
At 09:40 hours Bankia shares were changed to 0.96 euros from 1.40 the previous close, which so far this year accumulate a drop of 97.50%.
The Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB) approved on April 17 the last phase of the recapitalization of the bank, which began with a reduction of the nominal value of the shares in the company of 2 euros to a euro cent.
This step resulted in a reduction of the share capital of Bankia worth about 3.968 million euros.
After this, he made a consolidation of shares or "reverse split" at a ratio of 100 to one, ie, pooled 100 old shares closed Friday April 19 at 0.17 euros to form a single new title, which began trading on Monday 22-17 euros.
This operation was intended to provide liquidity to the shares to facilitate buying and selling in the market, although some experts consulted by EFE warned that its value would tend to approach their nominal value, as it has happened.
The company ended last May 14 the first of the planned capital increases in the process of restructuring and strengthening of the bank's own resources approved by the FROB.
