The tragedy has touched this weekend Doñana, Huelva. A fire that started near the village of El Rocío almonteña, within the natural park, triggered alerts in Infoca plan. Finally, technicians have controlled the fire given at 20.00 on Sunday. In the incident have burned 426 hectares of pasture, scrub and tarayal. Luckily, the flames have not affected the area of pine forests and have not spread through the rest of the park, the largest protected area of Andalusia.
The fire started at 16.00 on Saturday in the hamlet of La Dehesilla near El Rocio. The intense heat of recent days had dried further vegetation, causing flames to expand more rapidly in the grass and scrub.
Up to 11 aircraft and over 70 species specialists were sent to the area by the responsible plan Infoca of the Junta de Andalucía to fight the flames. The main concern was that the fire did not leave the area of grass and went into the pine trees, located north and east of the area where the blaze started. Finally, managed to contain the fire in the south, where the marsh prevented the spread of fire to the park. On Saturday night the fire was stabilized. During this Sunday has been made "work the perimeter shot and settlement." The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment has indicated that the fire could be caused, although the investigation is not closed.
Environmental groups applauded the actions of the troops Infoca plan. SEO / BirdLife has highlighted the work done "very effectively against the spread of fire into forest areas, thus avoiding a major ecological disaster in Doñana". But the federation also warned that the affected area "has a high ecological value, with the presence of numerous protected species."
WWF thanked the work done during the incident. The environmental organization has called for "an investigation with all possible means the cause of the fire, because it has put at serious risk the Doñana natural heritage." And remember that "more than 65% of large forest fires in 2012 in Spain are located in protected areas."
The most critical was the municipality of Almonte, ruled by the PP. You have sent a statement accusing the regional government of "playing with fire" with the "cuts" that in his opinion, are being made in the plan Infoca. The Board denies. The regional government has stated that there have been no cuts in Huelva, where 24.5 million are allocated to Infoca device, which has 600 troops in the province.
