Austrian Minister of Finance, Maria Fekter conservative, has argued that the eurozone should be "a vehicle to drive the states that ultimately pose a drag". In an interview with the Viennese daily Die Presse, Fekter has qualified his statement saying that the idea is a "vision" and not feasible sees "at least five years." The "vision" of the minister agrees with the statements made the last 17 for the Vice Chancellor and the Austrian Foreign Minister, Michael Spindelegger conservative fellow, who also defended the euro expel countries that do not meet economic goals. And like his fellow cabinet Fekter assumed that the process would involve reforming the European treaties, a process that "takes time."
Given the voices, especially from Germany, calling for an immediate withdrawal of Greece from the single currency, Fekter was blunt: "It is that" the Greeks to leave the euro "sounds simple when you say in a bar counter. but keep in mind the consequences: those most they weigh the expulsion of Greece would be to taxpayers. that is the reason why we continue to defend the survival of the eurozone and countries struggling to meet their reforms. "
Fekter also nuance the words of Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann Social Democrat, who on Monday said he agreed to give Greece more time to pay its debts as long as the EU implements its reform program. The minister said the extra period may be granted, "but no buts". According Fekter, "if the Greeks what they need is not more money, but more time to make a clear and comprehensive reform, then we could discuss." The European debt crisis is a source of friction in the Alpine country's grand coalition formed by the Social Democrats and the Conservatives SPÖ Austrian People's Party.
