A cry # porlacultura

Given the failure of the talks with the ministers of Finance and Education and Culture, Cristobal Montoro and José Ignacio Wert, respectively, cultural entrepreneurs have decided to throw high and your complaint has become public in an open letter addressed to Prime Minister . In the letter, signed by 4,000 companies and approved at a meeting yesterday morning, ensuring that the VAT increase to 21%, which comes into force on September 1, is a "contempt for culture and its value in personal development and in achieving social cohesion. " The signatories added that the "exorbitant rise" alienate Spain from the more developed countries, so they describe as "inalienable" your request for a six-month moratorium.
The letter says that the industry understands that "a government that claims to be rectified as soon as a decision adversely affecting the citizens, especially when there are European precedents. Netherlands and Portugal recently rectified Cultural VAT increase given the disastrous results that produced the increase . "He ends with a plea for review of the decision of the Council of Ministers on Friday and the suspension of its entry into force. During the moratorium requiring employers reduced VAT would remain" for the government to reflect and Back to carefully consider the impact that such a measure would be in different cultural sectors. "
Here we publish the full text of the letter.
OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF SPAIN
D. Mariano Rajoy
Prime Minister of Spain
Mr. President:
If the Council of Ministers to be held this Friday does not intervene, September 1 shall enter into force higher taxes for cultural activity, from reduced rate of 8% to the standard rate of 21%. The decision of the Government further impeding access to culture, seriously endangers the culture industry and places Spain far behind applying reduced VAT all eurozone countries for cultural shows. Also, and more seriously, the measure does not help achieve the economic objectives of the government and that will reduce the net proceeds from this activity
During the last month we have had the opportunity to exchange views with other members of his government and based on independent economic reports, we were able to prove to them insofar as is, at least, unfair and ineffective. And is that the reports present a frightening future scenario in the event that his Government did not correct the bill passed: loss of 43 million viewers, a reduction of 530 million in box office revenue, loss of 4,500 direct jobs and close to 20% of businesses in the cultural industries (music, film and performing arts).
The move is an insult to the culture and its value in personal development and in achieving social cohesion and alienate Spain from the more developed countries. The terrible impact of the exorbitant rise makes our culture demand that count on a reduced VAT is waived. We understand that a government that claims to be rectified as soon as a decision adversely affecting the citizens, especially when there are European precedents. Netherlands and Portugal recently rectified Cultural VAT increase given the disastrous results that produced the increase.
For these reasons we ask that promotes a review of the decision in this next Council of Ministers, suspending its entry into force, on 1 September, and sufficient for establishing a moratorium that would remain the reduced VAT, for the Government to reflect and re-examine in detail the impact that such a measure would in different cultural sectors, to what we wear once again available to the Government.
Madrid, August 29, 2012
Signed: Over 4,000 cultural enterprises Music, Film and Performing Arts represented by the Union of Business Associations SPANISH CULTURAL INDUSTRY.
