The European Central Bank ( ECB) in 2013 took good advantage of its portfolio of peripheral debt , amounting to 185,700 million, of which 38.800 million were Spanish bonds , 21% . As reported Thursday the agency presiding Mario Draghi , this investment will reported interest income of 962 million, plus the rest of its operations and the fact that he did not need to make as many provisions as in 2012, boosted its profits 45 % to 1.440 million.
The ECB has published its accounts for the second consecutive year, specifically that most sovereign debt on its balance sheet is Italian, with 48% of the total or 89,700 million. The institution also has 19,800 million euros in Portuguese debt and 9,700 million euros in Irish bonds . The half-life of the set is 3.9 years.
The sovereign debt securities that are held are from the ECB bond buying program in the secondary markets (SMP ) that was active between May 2010 and September 2012 after several idle months.
