Weak demand to buy homes and poor financial market liquidity by the crisis continue to undermine the housing market. The number of mortgages on homes totaled 21,195 in September, 32% less than the same month of 2011, according to figures released Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). With this decline, mortgaged homes strung and 29 months of consecutive falls.

In addition, the total number of home mortgages is the second lowest in any month in the comparable historical series, which began in 2003.
