E-commerce in Spain continues to break records despite the overall deterioration of the activity and the entry of the economy in recession, although not immune to the crisis. As reported Tuesday Market Commission (CMT), the industry's turnover from April to June amounted to 2,640.8 million euros, which reaches a new high because each Internet access is becoming increasingly widespread and overcome the fears to make purchases online.
However, weak consumer spending, which fell 1% in this period, according to the INE, has also taken its toll in the sector. Because of him, purchases made through the network slowed their pace of expansion compared with the start of the year. So, with the advance of 19% year on year that started with exercise, growth slows to 13.7%. This represents the smallest increase since the third quarter of 2009, when Spain was also in recession.
The report also reveals that the CMT during the second quarter of 2012 were carried 36.7 million transactions, a figure identical to the previous quarter, representing a growth of 17%. Following less positive data statistics, the trade balance remains negative this quarter and the deficit reached 743.4 million euros.
The economic pillar is generated mainly distributed between travel agents and tour operators (13.8%) and air transport (13.8%). They were followed in the classification of industries with higher turnover direct marketing (6.5%), inland passenger transport (4.8%), gambling and betting (3.5%), the performing arts, sports and recreation (3.4%), advertising (3%) and clothing (2.5%).
Transactions from the outside with Spain and account for almost 15% of the total, with a turnover of 394.5 million euros. The tourism sector (travel agencies, tour operators, air transport, hotels, etc..) Accounted for 58.4% of revenue in transactions from outside Spain.
Moreover, the buying and selling of goods and services via the Internet from overseas turnover Spain 1137.9 million and represented 43.1% of the total. Meanwhile, online trade within Spain also increased and accounted for 42%, reaching a total of 1108.4 million.
The CMT takes to account transactions by credit card. By contrast, excludes purchases by bank transfer, cash, or other payment method other than credit card. For example, payment methods like PayPal only computed only transactions related to credit card and not linked to a bank account.
