The risk rating agency Fitch believes that it will be "several years" before the Spanish banks normally be funded in the international credit markets, although the liquidity provided under the deposits will allow entities to reduce their costs funding.
In a report released today, Fitch said that the process of financial sector restructuring Spanish banks will reduce their dependence on liquidity of the European Central Bank (ECB).
The document indicates that the processes of mergers, acquisitions and corporate transactions, such as the one currently underway between Banco Sabadell and Banco Mare Nostrum, help to restore the confidence of depositors and investors, as fewer entities more efficient financial will be better able to absorb losses from the real estate sector and sovereign risk.
Banco Mare Nostrum, a group of Caja Murcia, Granada, and Sa Nostra Penedes, and Banco Sabadell, have concluded a preliminary agreement that establishes the basis for the acquisition by the latter of the banking business in Catalonia and Aragon group savings .
The agency predicted that in the coming months will see more operations of this kind, but warns that should be undertaken with caution and not to harm the financial profile of the larger institutions.
This will have a positive effect on the stability of the sector and on the ratings agency that applies the medium term.
In the immediate future, Fitch estimates that the size and the number of banks was reduced by about 25%, and as happened in Greece and Ireland with their financial institutions, will consolidate the sector deleveraging.
In its report, Fitch warns of the brake that is to restructure the Spanish banking crisis in the euro area and highlights the different impact of the environment on the entities based on their size.
Larger banks are most benefited by the fusion process, and although generally Fitch values the strict cost control of Spanish banks, also doubts that occur in the short term improvement in profits.
