The shadow of the planned strike on Spanish airports and could be in full Christmas holidays. Iberia unions are unwilling to negotiate with the management of the airline an adjustment plan that includes a reduced activity because they believe it would mean the death of the company. The program announced on November 9, after posting record losses in the first nine months of the year, includes a cut of 15% of the routes in 2013 and wage cuts of between 25% and 35% on average.
For the first time in a labor dispute in Iberia, unions Earth services of cabin crew and pilots have agreed to mobilize against the management plans, which will convene protests simultaneous and, therefore, may have a greater effect.
The CEO of Iberia, Rafael Sanchez-Lozano, has stressed these days the company is willing to reach agreements by the template and, for this, accept changes to its proposal. But it marked a red line: the company to improve its operating results in 600 million by 2015. "If the unions know how to do that without layoffs, I hear," he said at a meeting with journalists.
Negotiating difficult
The negotiation has not even begun. The company called the workers' representatives last week to deliver the documents and open the process, but the unions refused to talk as long as you do not remove the reduction routes. Sepla delegates (pilots) or want to be presented to the meeting.
Before initiating contact, pilots are expected to require a new award on the situation of Iberia Express, the low cost airline created by Iberia in March. The union is awaiting the execution of the judgment of the High Court's November 2 that annulled the award, given by Professor Jaime Montalvo in May and ending the conflict between Iberia and Sepla, and orders issue again.
Iberia wants to spend to spend € 1,300 million a year in labor costs to disburse 850 million. The savings of 450 million would not only reduce the workforce by 4,500 people, but also include wage cuts for workers who remain in the company. The drop in pay "would gradually" until 2015. Those who suffer more cuts would, in principle, the drivers (could reach 47%).
