The Liberation Organization (PLO) continues to receive support with a view to the resolution that will be voted on Thursday night before the UN General Assembly and which would become a "state" observer, rather than a " entity ". "This is a historic moment and an opportunity for the world to rectify the grave historical injustice suffered by the Palestinians," he said this morning Ashraui Hanan, executive member of the PLO, in a press conference in Ramallah. "It's the beginning of a new era", he said. And then he added: "We do not need bandages or ceasefires. It's the time of the right to self-determination and the end of the occupation. "
Voting is full of symbolism, but also may have important practical consequences, including the Palestinians access to international justice, something of great concern to the Israelis.
The Palestinian leader said that despite "the pressures and we are receiving bribes" will not change position and vote on the text of the resolution as it stands so far. Ashraui confirmed that some countries, with Britain in the lead, have tried until the last moment that the Palestinians were committed to such nonuse of international justice from his income as a non-member or non-call on the UN admission as a full member. "We reserve the right to decide when and how to ask for admission to institutions and UN agencies according to Palestinian interests," said Palestinian politics, referring to a future Palestinian membership in the International Criminal Court.
Ashraui also referred to the incipient rapprochement warring Palestinian factions Fatah in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza. "We're all in the same boat. Each of the Palestinian factions supported the initiative. " The call is national reunification as a priority Ashraui reserved for the day after the UN vote. The idea is to exploit the diplomatic push to bolster Palestinian project also doors inside. Five years ago that communication and common political life broke between Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, between the Islamists of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
Source: CIA World Factbook / The CountryIsrael is directly contrary to the Palestinian diplomatic initiative and has sent the Palestinians a battery of retaliation that could launch from Friday. Accelerating settlement expansion or even topple Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian Authority president are some of those threats. Israel has not commented officially yet and Israeli sources explained that so far have opted to wait and see what the next movement of Palestinians, once adopted its resolution in the General Assembly, on Thursday night.
