"The government appreciates the efforts made by the Government of Catalonia and has not the slightest doubt that it will continue to make efforts to meet the deficit target for this year and the next year established," said the minister at a press press before participating in the meeting of the Party's economic team.
De Guindos insisted that deficit reduction is the "building block" to solve the liquidity problems of the Autonomous Communities, and otherwise-assured difficulties reappear in the coming months.
"The ultimate goal is that budgets are sustainable over time", emphasized Minister of Economy and Competitiveness.
The Catalan regional government yesterday asked the Spanish Government to accede to the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (for the regions of Spain), which will borrow EUR 5.023 million, but refused to undergo "political conditions".
De Guindos said that the request for financial support from Catalonia "was perfectly planned and within the projected" amount provided by the Government, which was endowed with 18,000 million euros.
