Argentina has reported on Wednesday before the World Trade Organization (WTO) to the European Union, Spain and the United States, accusing them of "impeding free trade" to put up barriers to Argentine products in various markets such as lemons, meat res and biodiesel.
The move was announced in a press conference by the Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman, who said that complaints were filed after "trying to resolve bilaterally protectionist measures that violate WTO rules and carrying more than a decade of application ".
"The measures against Argentine exports have caused serious damage to farmers in Argentina, and also the loss of thousands of jobs," Timerman said, adding that they are open to negotiation in the WTO.
The South American country accuses the U.S. of blocking imports of meat and fresh lemons Argentina, while reporting to the European Union and Spain to do the same with Argentine biodiesel.
The diplomatic and trade relations have been tense between Argentina and the EU since May, when President Cristina Fernandez took a majority stake in YPF expropriating the Spanish Repsol. Argentina has already complained to the WTO about both issues, but today is a formal request to the object that the Dispute Settlement Body of the WTO ruling on the dispute.
According to WTO rules a country accused of breaking rules you have 60 days to try to resolve the complaint, after which the applicant may request that the WTO establish a panel of judges to judge the arguments of the parties.
