Experts Iberia and pilots' union on Wednesday the new study award rendered by Jaime Montalvo, appointed to mediate the dispute between the company and its pilots by the creation of Iberia Express, which provides for Iberia and some working conditions more typical of a low cost airline, as is the 40% reduction in wages of newly hired pilots.
The starting salary of a new pilot will be 34,400 euros per year compared to the current 88,906 euros, according to the award, which will run until the end of 2014 and may be contested by the parties. After 13 years of experience, this first figure will rise to 91,803 euros, compared with 146,128 euros now a commander charged with the same years of service. The new roster will be unique, ie shared by both Iberia pilots as Iberia Express.
This is the second award made by the professor of labor law since the conflict began following the launch of the low cost of Iberia, in March, and that was the trigger for several days of strikes in the spring of 2012. The former, released in May, was canceled last month by the National Court, because no representative of Iberia Express was called to give his opinion and that this was a defect.
The award reaffirms the legality of the low-cost subsidiary. "It recognizes the authority responsible for Iberia (...) to set up companies deemed appropriate for the best development of the activity and, in particular, Iberia Express as a business entity with full managerial autonomy," says Montalvo in the award 49 pages, the newspaper Cinco Dias forward in its Wednesday edition.
It also seeks to facilitate the transfer between both Iberia and Iberia Express, so that if a passenger of Iberia pilot aims to become the low cost may do so if there are vacancies and salary increases of just over 20,000 euros. Iberia Montalvo understood that if, in turn, covered with contracting these cheaper low "can produce a very significant saving."
Failure to see the real impact would this measure. Iberia pilots not only not hire since 2004, but also wants to eliminate 537 of the 1,441 pilots currently employed (excluding Iberia Express) in the adjustment plan submitted last November 9 to exit losses.
In addition, the award sets out measures to increase productivity, such as reducing the time to 35 minutes returned scale of short and medium haul.
Another important point limits the growth capacity of the low-cost subsidiary, whose activity does not exceed 25% of the total number of seats for miles operated by the matrix. This condition was highly criticized by Iberia after the first award. Nor may make long-haul flights (over six hours).
