La canciller alemana, Angela Merkel, negó el lunes haber recomendado al Gobierno de España que no pida un nuevo rescate a los mecanismos de estabilidad europeos. Según repitió Merkel en la Cancillería berlinesa, la conveniencia de un rescate es una decisión nacional que cada Gobierno debe considerar por sí mismo. Merkel reconoció que está en contacto permanente con el presidente del Gobierno español, Mariano Rajoy, con quien dijo hablar “a menudo”. Durante un encuentro con un nutrido grupo de periodistas internacionales que organizaba la Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera (VAP), la democristiana Merkel destacó el “éxito” de las ayudas europeas a la banca española solicitadas el pasado verano y se refirió al abaratamiento de los créditos a España. La jefa del Gobierno alemán recalcó su apoyo “absoluto” a las políticas de Rajoy.
A primeros de este mes, Rajoy explicó a los líderes sindicales españoles Cándido Méndez (UGT) e Ignacio Fernández Toxo (CC OO) que Alemania desaconsejaba la petición de un segundo rescate. Según informaciones de este diario, Rajoy explicó a los sindicalistas que el Gobierno de Merkel teme someterse a una nueva votación de rescate en el Parlamento federal (Bundestag). Pero desde el Gobierno alemán se insiste, como hizo Merkel el lunes, en que la decisión es competencia exclusiva de cada Gobierno. También advierten de las presiones en sentido contrario por parte de otros socios europeos. La petición de rescate español podría servir a Francia de muro de contención de sus propias tribulaciones financieras. Alemania insiste en que es Rajoy quien decide si precisa un nuevo rescate.
En cuanto a las dificultades parlamentarias del Gobierno de Merkel para aprobar nuevas ayudas, la reciente votación sobre el muy impopular rescate griego ha demostrado que Merkel cuenta con apoyos más que suficientes para sacar adelante más gastos europeos. Nada permite suponer que un segundo rescate español, esta vez ampliado al conjunto de las finanzas nacionales, fuera a dar mayores problemas que la reciente votación de las enésimas ayudas multimillonarias a Grecia, aprobadas en noviembre con abrumadora mayoría.
El encuentro de Merkel con la prensa extranjera estuvo precedido de cierta polémica, porque el Gobierno alemán decidió este año que su contenido fuera off the record casi por completo.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday denied having recommended to the Government of Spain not order a new bailout to European stability mechanisms.
