The Irish government today introduced a general budget for 2013 aimed to save 3,500 million euros via spending cuts and new taxes, such as property. As announced by the Irish Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, will be a new "mansion tax", which will force from next July to owners of homes valued at over one million euros each year to pay 0.25% of its value, while for the rest will be 0.18%.
To stimulate a sector whose collapse in 2007 plunged the country into a deep crisis, Noonan said that new home buyers in 2013 will be free to pay these fees until 2016, while those who are not exempt must "establish themselves" the value of your property, after following guidelines set by the Government.
Also remain at 9% of value added tax (VAT) in the tourism sector and remove tax incentives offered so far to pensioners with salaries over 60,000 per year. Though not change tax bands for income tax, self-employed will be affected by an increase of 247 euros in annual contributions to social security, to stand at 500.
Nor touch weekly pay while receiving some unemployed job seekers, but receive only for nine months, three less than before, a measure to save 33 million euros in 2013. And reduced by 10 euros in assistance per child families, hitherto of 140 euros per month for the first two children, 148 euros for the third and the fourth and 160 euros for the following.
According to Noonan, these and other measures will help to meet the 2013 deficit target of 7.5% set in the rescue of the European Union (EU) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to this country, quantified at 85,000 million euros.
With this setting, the executive coalition between the Conservatives and Labour plans to save € 2,000 million through cuts in government spending, while others paid 1,500 million euros with new tax measures.
Among the latter up 10 cents in the price of a pint of beer and spirits, while wine bottle "standard" is more expensive on a pack of euro and 10 cents on snuff.
In the public sector, the government hopes to reduce the cost of civil service bill fixing their number at 287,000 workers in 2013, 33,000 fewer than there were in 2008.
