It was not a rookie. The pilot Nieva Jose Agustin Gomez Army colonel in reserve status, had 12 seasons battling the flames on board his helicopter. Native of Seville, Nieva was in command of a Bell 412EP when rushed yesterday Forata reservoir (Valencia), while doing a load of water to try to quell the devastating fire Pallás Courts.
The colonel, 59, whose body was found this afternoon in the reservoir near the dam, after nearly a day of searching divers Corps Valencia Municipal Fire and GEO of the Civil Guard, belonged to the Brigade Strengthening of Forest Fires (BRIF) based on Daroca (Zaragoza). Nieva was married with three children, two national police have been in the swamp during the rescue, and accumulated 3,995 hours of experience flying with the company INAER, over 1,000 of them with the wrecked machine. The company provides aircraft pilots and for campaigns to combat forest fires and the Ministry of Environment.
Hours after the first incident, a second helicopter made an emergency landing. It was another device INAER a W3A Sokol, who had also Daroca party to participate in extinguishing the fire. On board the accident aircraft was the Polish Roman commander along with his co-driver Kowalczyk Francisco Polonius, a native of Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz).

Kowalczyk working since 2005 on such campaigns and accumulate 7,300 hours of flight, while Polonius does since 2009, with 1,000 hours of experience. Both were injured and taken to the Hospital Universitario La Fe, Valencia, where they are admitted.
Sources of the clinic have confirmed this morning that the situation remains unchanged both injured. Kowalczyck, 55, suffered multiple injuries and is in the recovery room with a guarded prognosis. Also with multiple injuries but in stable condition is Polonius, 36.
Still investigating the causes of both accidents. The first wrecked helicopter was a Bell 412EP U.S. model, specifically for extreme conditions like those of a rescue, while the second one was a Polish military design. Both aircraft had the airworthiness certificate granted by the State Aviation Safety Agency, which expired on June 28, 2013, as reported INAER.
