Car registrations in the Spanish market stood at 406,070 units during the first half of 2012, representing a decrease of 8.2% compared with data from the same period last year, according to manufacturers' associations (Anfac) and sellers (Ganvam). Deliveries of cars reached 73,258 units during the month of June, representing a decrease of 12.1% over the same month last year.
Car sales to individuals strung two consecutive years in decline. During the first half of this year 171,315 units were delivered to individuals, 10.6% lower than the same period last year. The fall has been 14% in June, when 30,366 cars were registered.
The few sales in recent months cause the cars on the roads are getting older and less secure
The decline is also evident in sales to businesses. The decline has been 11.5% since January, with 123,004 registrations. With regard to June, the decline has reached 19% at the end of the month with the delivery of 21,540 vehicles.
Car deliveries fell during the month of June in all regions, except Ceuta and Melilla, where they remained stable, with 170 units. Between January and June, all regions experienced declines in their volumes of registrations. In June, 69.5% of cars registered in Spain had diesel engines, while 29.2% were petrol and 1.2% were hybrid or electric. In the first six months of the year, the share of diesel stood at 68%, gasoline 30.7% and that of hybrid and electric in 1.3%.
Ganvam Anfac and explained that the Spanish car market situation "worrying", as the sales volume for closure this year "paltry" 750,000 units, while five years ago stood at 1.6 million units.
