At least 71 people have died and 124 were injured Monday by a bomb blast during rush hour in a bus station on the outskirts of the Nigerian capital , Abuja , as reported by a spokesman for the police, Frank Mba .
The president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan , immediately ordered increased security in Abuja , after the explosion that occurred about 0645 local time ( one hour in the Peninsula ) , when passengers were about to board buses in the car park of the station. After the incident, the confusion took over the spot where the mutilated bodies crowded into the ground.
Ambulances began to transport the injured to nearby hospitals , according to the newspaper Premium Times , citing eyewitnesses, over 150 bodies were removed from the site .
Firefighters have smothered the fire and rescue teams are still working in the area to extinguish the fire and recover the bodies .
About 12 buses were badly damaged in the blast, which has not yet been claimed by any group, although it is suspected to have been perpetrated by radical Islamist militia Boko Haram. In fact , President Jonathan said in his first statement after the attack , that " Nigeria defeat Boko Haram ."
