Eurostat has announced today that the first five regions of the European Union ( EU) by Spanish unemployment rate is a negative unprecedented milestone in the historical series . Andalusia ( which ended 2013 with 36.3 % unemployment ) , Ceuta (35.6% ), Melilla (34.4% ), Canary Islands ( 34.1 %) and Extremadura (33.7% ) dominate the top positions a classification that are also Castilla -la Mancha (seventh with 30.1% ), Murcia (ninth , with 29.4% ), two regions Greek -Macedonia - Western and Central Macedonia and French - Réunion . At the opposite end of the list, six German regions , two Austrian and Czech stand as the most attractive when it comes to finding work.
Although the persistent deterioration in the labor market has led to the Spanish regions to be among the most backward in successive editions of the European classification , the table never before had yielded results as negative for Spain . With regard to youth unemployment, Spain - with five of the ten regions with higher unemployment - again position itself as the European country with the highest number among the lowest-ranked regions . The autonomous city of Ceuta (with a 72.7 % unemployment in the labor force aged 15 to 24 years) led the ranking , followed by two Greek -Macedonia and Epirus - Western regions , Andalusia (66.1%) and the Canary Islands ( 65.3 %). Extremadura ( 61.7 %) and Castilla -la Mancha (61.6% ) , entering new ranking - rank eighth and ninth place respectively.
As in the case of total unemployment , the German regions are raised with the best results in youth employment . Up to eight administrative departments Germans have levels of youth unemployment below 7 %, which places them among the 10 European regions with better performance in this area.
Spain , which closed 2013 with an unemployment rate of 26.03% , is the second EU country with the highest unemployment rate surpassed only by Greece ( 27.5 %).
Employment in Spain manages to grow more than the OECD average
