Cantabria and the Basque Country retreat by 1.9% last year and are among the worst

None escaped the autonomous community of the recession last year , but the thrust of tourism, which remains the goose that lays golden eggs for Spain , marked wide differences between the behavior of GDP and some others. Canary and Balearic suffered minor decrease of 0.4% , followed by Valencia and Catalonia , both with a negative rate of 0.8 % , according to data released Monday by the National Statistics Institute ( INE).
By contrast , Asturias and Castilla y León suffered the worst decline in GDP of 2.1 % in both cases , followed by Cantabria and the Basque Country , with a decline of 1.9 % , exacerbating the fall of 2012 .
" The smaller decline in real GDP growth rate recorded in the autonomous community of the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands is mainly due to the evolution of their respective services sector more favorable than that observed national economies ," explains INE in its statement.
By contrast, real GDP growth in Asturias and Castilla y León " was affected largely by the decline in volume of value added associated with the industry and energy sector. Asturias also include the worst performance branch Construction activity compared to the national average . "
If the values of GDP per capita are analyzed , the Basque Country was the Community with an enrollment despite the recession with 29,959 euros , 34.5 % higher than the Spanish average , which stood at 22,279 euros. Conversely , Extremadura presented the lowest GDP per capita with 15,026 euros , 32.6 % less than the national average.
