Monetary Affairs Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Spanish José Viñals today urged Spain to "persevere" in the process of labor and financial reform for the country to return to growth in 2014.
The Fund expects the Spanish economy to shrink by 1.6% this year and return to the growth path in 2014, when it expects a rebound of 0.7%.
"If you see the forecasts that have been made, which there is an improvement in 2014 compared to 2013, and the economy is placed in positive territory, in the case of Spain. I think it's encouraging," he assured reporters Viñals Spanish press conference following the presentation of the Global Financial Stability report.
The director of the agency remarked further that "to consolidate the recovery, and make it even more intense, it is important to persevere in the process of adjustment and reform, labor markets, goods and services, and the financial system."
"If done well, it will cause the forecasts are confirmed, and why not, that things could be even better than they look now," said the director of the Currency and Capital Markets International Monetary Fund and Bank exsubgobernador of Spain.
Meanwhile Robert Sheehy, Deputy Director of Monetary Affairs Department of the Fund, today praised Spain's efforts to clean up the troubled banks capitalization, which said "applies mostly to banks sector."
The manager called "key" reforms in the banking sector and the creation of the Sareb, also known as "bad bank" created to manage the toxic assets primarily real estate as part of the process of banking consolidation.
"We are pleased with the progress made to date," he said Sheehy.
