Weak, corrupt, traditional and country idle. That is the image of Spain that have many of the Germans, according to the latest barometer of the Elcano Royal Institute, made between March 25 and April 4. In less than 20 years, the distrust of the Teutons fivefold. This emerges from a survey comparing the Instituto Universitario Ortega y Gasset developed in 1996. So one in 10 Germans considered a country it was unreliable. Now, five of 10. Although the institute does not point the time when the change occurred, the data reflect the end of the Spanish miracle.
The Observatory barometer institute Brand Spain also includes the image of Spain in China, UK, Russia, the United States and Mexico. Stresses, however, the evolution of this vision in Germany: in 1996 only two out of 10 Teutons regarded the little Spanish workers and today there are four out of 10, the rating of Spain as weak country has risen from 20% to 44 %, probably due to the effect of the crisis, in 1996 two out of 10 Germans believed that Spanish workers were little and now four in 10 are defined as idle. Something that has not changed substantially during this time is the percentage of Germans who think that Spain is a traditional country: 85% in 1996, compared to 77% in 2013.
Despite the deterioration of the image of the country, continues to be well appreciated in Germany, who scored with 6.1-on a scale of 0-10 -, compared to 4.6 which gives to Greece. It is one of the few positive considerations in light of the Real Instituto Elcano barometer, the power of Spain centroerupea ago. Thus, one in two respondents argues that it is a country of corrupt-the average of the other six countries in which the survey was conducted is one in three.
Valuing Rajoy remained virtually the same levels of December 2012 in the three countries where the survey has been repeated: Germany, United States and United Kingdom. Then the average was 5.3 points on a scale of 0-10, and now is 5.4. Although half of the respondents believe that Spain is a corrupt country, the assessment of the country remains a political level, and passes from 5 to 5.2.
The prospects for the future are not very good. Outside majority still those who think that Spain will not soon of the crisis. The 36% of respondents believe that the recovery will be long term only, 52% in the medium term, and only 12% in the short term. The most pessimistic scenarios are drawn in the UK and Germany. That the number of respondents who see the end of the long-term crisis is alrgo (53% in the UK and 44% in Germany). The 62% of respondents in the six countries where data has taken the Real Instituto Elcano consider that Spain may need a bailout to tackle its difficulties outside.
