When the current recession is seen from the perspective of the labor market, there are several differences between this and the previous. And all the worse. One is the destruction of permanent jobs, the core of the labor market in Spain, to a much greater extent than before. In the last quarter have evaporated 118,400 permanent jobs for 194,400 temporary. The relationship used to be much more unequal in favor of the latter.
A similar, even more level, occurs when the lens is extended the analysis to the entire year. In 12 months have destroyed 414,000 384,500 permanent jobs for temporary.
There are several reasons for this phenomenon. The first is the continuing crisis. The fall in employment and is on track to nearly six years. To start the blow took him who possessed a temporary job, but that ended long ago. Companies have exhausted the temporary cushion and bounce which usually have fixed also to reduce costs.
There is another reason: the labor reform. Legal changes in February last year facilitated the termination of permanent contracts. In the three full quarters that the reform has been in place has been destroyed almost as many permanent jobs (388,900) and temporal (395 700).
