The cultural historical identity is not something that one individual or nation can choose capriciously. Our personality, as a people or society, consists of two layers: a deeper one that acts as a base, we have not chosen us, and a second that is based on the first and, after primary socialization for our maturity and ability of thinking, we will be choosing for ourselves, but always based on the sociocultural conditions that we marked the first fire and imposed cultural platform socializing broader since we grew up and we are always hopelessly attached.
In this sense, the birth mother be lengthened Europe over several centuries. So, starting with the Roman, through the nascent Christianity and the barbarians, they will engender some roots, to grow, create some ties that will emerge breast viewing the European cultural geographical different towns that are on our . It will be in the Middle Ages when you start socialization, consolidating the Romance languages, Christianization, along with Greco-Roman revival fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, will define our beliefs, our values, our science and our way of thinking and acting.
The Enlightenment and the liberal revolutions show that those people, who began to emerge almost two millennia ago and were socialized for centuries in European cultural patterns, wanted independence from their parents (Europe), to decide their own future. But they were not aware of that "want" is not enough, but it takes a great deal of philosophical reflection to acquire historical awareness of why we are as we are, ie, European and Spanish, and from that moment, while we awareness and knowledge of cultural ingredients from faraway symbiosis between Iberians and Romans, have been making us what we are and, therefore, conditioning our socio-political behavior, be able to manage wisely informed and our present and future .
So, try to deny our European arteries would be an exercise as bold as he tried to make the dove which, according to Kant stated in his Critique of Pure Reason, thought to fly better without air and realized that without it, simply not moving and fell face down on the floor because it had the potential to beat their wings. In the same way, without cultural historical ingredients with European developments that would be biological beings endowed us with no perspective, no ability to choose, prisoners capricious and selfish behavior.
But now, at such a crucial time as the beginning of the century, we should ask: do you really, the Spanish are ready to be citizens of the European Community? Can we be citizens of a European Community if the Spanish educational system does not enhance the values and cultural background that makes the European Community is a reality and not a mirage?
In the preamble to the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe states that this text comes "inspiration from the cultural, religious and humanist inheritance of Europe, from which have developed the universal values of the inviolable and inalienable of the human person, democracy, equality, freedom and the rule of law. " The truth is that, as an educator, I can not understand how LOMCE education reform, in which you delete a fundamental subject for all European, Ethics, students can promote those values to respect this important binding preamble among Europeans. Anyone who browse the index of a book of the subject of Ethics in 4th of ESO can verify that their contents do no more than inform, maintain, facilitate and enhance these values of the Union "are common to the Member States in a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men "(Article I-2). Being listed here, practically, the syllabus that is taught, on which we reflect and work, the subject of Ethics in the second cycle of secondary school along the academic year.
It should be recalled that, in 2005, 94.8% of the House of Representatives voted in favor of the Treaty is to establish a Constitution for Europe. Specifically, the two major parties, PP and PSOE, voted in favor unconditionally. Therefore, striking so contradictory behavior on the part of the PP, as starting an educational reform that does not allow the sap that makes us Europeans, to eliminate Ethics regarding curriculum and reduce to a minimum the Story of Philosophy. Mr. Rajoy, Prime Minister, he was Minister of Education and know how important it is that if we want to participate and have a European project shared with other countries. I think it does not fit so great outrage in the mind to any Spanish or European, because what is clear is that we are all democratic citizens need a philosophical ethical education that prepares us to participate in this democracy stronger than want Spain and Europe.
The other subjects are instrumental and are only beneficial to society when they are guided by values and about ethical projects that students learn in Ethics. The human and natural sciences and social force make sense from an ethical and social intelligence in which the moral philosopher educates the student.
Can the European Community and the countries that compose afford an educational system in which students are unaware of the historical roots of moral, ethical and political factors that have made us what we are today, and that therefore it continue to drive our social decisions in the present? His ignorance, which is pretty much what LOMCE proposed, leads to the inability to recognize ourselves, that is, leads us to be slaves to what we know and not to be masters of our future, it can hardly decide coherent and free one (individual, company or country) that ignores the elements that define and determine in the present.
In this sense, the new reform leaves an essential subject, the History of Philosophy 2 of high school as an elective over, leaving aside all those great thinkers who have made the whole European culture of which we are heirs and that, like it or not, is still the potential of our present and future. How to give a reflection on the state and democracy made by Plato in his Republic, Aristotle's works on ethics and politics, thoughtful recognition of the limits of scientific knowledge which alerts us Hume, or the critical work of Enlightenment thinkers (Locke, Rousseau, Kant, etc.) for a more just humanity, which flows directly into our current ideals? How despise analysis of European society of man mass conducted by one of the greatest European philosophers José Ortega y Gasset, and healing to overcome the crisis we're in for some time, that would be the end "darling", this "gentleman consented" to which he has given everything done and do not appreciate the effort (fundamental value in the LOMCE) as a foundation to maintain the achievements of our society? This would gradually destroy the European Union do not encourage in students an understanding and reflection about the real forces that bind. Therefore, it is essential, both for students of social sciences and natural sciences, to know and understand them to be aware of what our identity and European elements, because only from his knowledge and promotion will be able to join the other members of the European Community, and direct sharing a common project that starts from the very foundations.
Now, with all due respect, dear Minister Jose Ignacio Wert Ortega, simply, there is still time to correct a mistake that could cost us in this expensive and irreparable harm to future generations.
