Almunia: "Europe should coordinate the labor market and taxation"

Joaquín Almunia believes that the EU should coordinate regulation of taxes and labor market on a continental scale . The Vice President and Head of Competition of the European Commission, which has participated Thursday in a ceremony organized by the ESADE Business School in Madrid , explained that if you want to " be consistent policies on taxes and the labor market should be located at same level as the budget , taxation or financial regulation " matters.
At the conference, which has been developed in dialogue with the former minister and former head of European diplomacy Javier Solana, Almunia has devoted a large part of his speech to Spain and other countries where levels of unemployment and debt are high "We must do more," he admitted , though he has said " it is essential that each country should address the structural reforms that are different in each case and depend on national governments." Vice President of the Commission , however , has identified rethinking education systems and training and strengthening the foundations of the welfare system as a common necesitad to all member states .
In his analysis of the economic situation of the Union, Almunia has explained that there is a " risk of deflation " to be avoided to be "incompatible with the growth " in Europe. In this regard , the Commissioner is confident that the meeting of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB ) held next week put in place the necessary measures to stimulate the economy in the eurozone. Almunia has explained that the recent statements by the central banks of Germany, Finland and Slovakia "indicate that the ECB takes a decision in this regard." Competition Commissioner has emphasized the role of the institution Mario Draghi presides over the economic crisis, and emphasized the fact that the euro has never been dead , "The exchange rate fluctuation which can assess the health of currency , has been better than expectations throughout the crisis . "
Beyond monetary affairs , Almunia has clarified that the future development of the European Union requires the creation of a common strategy in the energy sector and the digital development : " Europe depends for 30 % of Russian imports , and there countries ranging up to 100 %. Though the choice of primary energy sources for the national governments have to coordinate policies in this sector, commitment to renewable and resolve contradictions in the fight against climate change , "warned .
Also, Almunia has said the sale of Nokia, until recently European leading company and now owned by the Microsoft U.S. , as an example of the negative trend affecting the continental technology sector. "We need to maintain European added value generated by the digital infrastructure and keep it with those who use [eg Google ] , in some cases paying taxes countries outside the Union ," said the Socialist politician . Again, the solution envisaged by the vice president of the Commission is implementing a common strategy in this area too .
Almunia has closed his speech by answering a question about the rescue of the highways proposed by the Spanish Government and the alleged violation of European law on State aid . " The Minister for Public Works , Ana Pastor, called me before I called her and told me that it is not a final decision and that negotiation is still open ." he concluded.
