The Director General of the Presidency of Bankia, José Sevilla, said Thursday that more than 150,000 customers of the entity that once bought preferred stock or subordinated debt arbitration request to recover the money invested. "We think that arbitration is a process that can provide a solution to customers and help them recover the money invested," he assured Sevilla during an interview in Rne.
Bankia Wednesday announced that more than 29,000 retail customers have requested arbitration in just twelve days from the implementation of this mechanism. "This is a process that we believe is quite transparent to the client, free and with which it closes the courts" insisted Sevilla.
Asked about the possibility that the President of Bankia, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, to assume the coordination of the three nationalized entities-Bankia, NCG and CatalunyaBanc-, Sevilla has indicated that the best alternative for the company is "on his way". "We have a project, we are excited and committed to it and not to divert attention."
"In principle, it is normal to hold Bankia its restructuring process that culminates unchanged and as planned," said Sevilla, who nevertheless pointed out that the FROB will decide "what is best for all parties".
A year ago, Goirigolzarri Bankia assumed the presidency after the resignation of Rodrigo Rato and proposed the nationalization of the company. A year later, Sevilla believes the body "is much better" and that after carrying out "a major restructuring process and recapitalization, which is concluding."
Even in this first quarter, Bankia has returned to profit and "begins to look to the future with more optimism," stated Sevilla, who has maintained the goal of the organization to reach 800 million profit by the end of 2013. Finally, Sevilla has estimated that credit should begin to grow later this year or early next.
According to the latest data published by Bankia, the entity has granted 4.037 million euros in loans to individuals and companies in the first four months of the year. Only in April, Bankia has granted loans nearly double that recorded until late March, when it reached 2,218 million euros.
